Well I forget the time all the time these days…but never the moments
I remember the memories and before they slip away I turn em into sonnets
When the lightning strikes … I just write it down
It don’t have to be right … It just has to make a joyful sound
Maybe someday I’ll write my epitath
But right now I really aint got no time for that
I want to write a song to make the world feel good and my wallet fat
Maybe someday…maybe someday…
Well if I was a poet I’d use poetry to convince you your world is a beautiful place
I’d used words you could lean on and drift away on and fall into a righteous space
It don’t have to be heavy … Words to be unwound
It doesn’t even have to be correct … It just has to make a joyful sound

The days that were started the day I begun
I don’t wanna feel like I’m breakin no kind of promise but between me and you I’m just tryin to be honest
Some days I feel just like a passer by, like I’m just starin at life through the window as it rolls on by
I feel like I should be writing some of this down, Maybe with a chorus that goes round and round
But one of these days all my words will be gone and all I’ll have left is a song

We could be an echo of another space in time
We probably should have met a little further up the line

Comes down to being human and it falls right at our feet
You can spend your lifetime chasing all the things you cannot see
And sometimes it will work out that way
Just an echo a spotlight in the dark
Like a planet you put a ring around my heart
And I am just a gambler from the other side of midnight
I watched you take a rainbow and hold it in your hands
I come to you each morning like the river to the sand
And I wonder yes I wonder is this part of some great plan
Or did it just work out

If I could take a daydream and put it in a blender and mix it with a little bit of blues
Turn it into sunshine and call it legal tender then we could spend it any way we choose
Everybody knows that the secret to success is in the pudding not in the pie
And if wishes were like ladders then we’d all be climbing on them
Just trying to build our castles in the sky
You either use what you got or you take what you need
Whatever gets you by
Sooner or later we’ll all be in the money but right now we’re doing just fine yeah we’re doin all right
Me and sleepy Larry were just standing on the corner …taking bets and tellin lies
Larry went and bet me that he could pull a red card from a red deck at any time
Everybody knows that the card you’re looking for is always on the bottom of the pile
And even even money can’t guarantee success sometimes that takes a little while
You either use what you got or you take what you need

Sooner or later we’ll all be holding aces but right now we’re doing just fine yeah we’re doing all right
Just the other morning in the middle of the night I stopped to let the police pass on by
I had had a little but Larry had a lot so I figured we’d be safe here for a while
Every body knows that the wind can change direction in a moment if you look it in the eye
And me and crazy Larry weren’t looking forperfection we were only trying to learn how to fly
You either use what you got or you take what you need

The mirror might shine a light on all the things you cannot see
The stars may shine so brightly that they blind you and me
The chrome on this engine might be slowing it down
A diamond’s shine won’t cover up that it was coal in the ground
Once the wheel spins around and offers up your turn
Why would you settle for just shining
When you can burn
This gold is so damn heavy tho it shines like the sun
And pearls will not stay with you when your earthly days are done
The shine of the bullets makes no difference to the gun
The silver in your crown will eventually run
When it comes time to show em everything you’ve learned

You know everybody who has come and gone
The faded stars and legends… the shine will not live on
Nothing in this world is meant to live on anyway
I think it’s better to burn brightly than to shine and fade away
If one chance to rise above is all you’re ever gonna earn

I’m happy just to feel the breeze

Einstein aint got nuthin on me, but that might be relative as far as I can see
Ol’ Albert was a genius on that much we can all agree … Einstein aint got nuthin on me
I’m like a bird up on a wire
Resting on my journey to the sea
Einstein may have set the world on fire
But he aint got nuthin on me
Superman was a hero everyone could see
Faster than a speeding bullet and a locomotive if you please
Einstein knew that MC squared would always equal E
But neither one of em …got nuthin on me

That the forest wasn’t really in the way of all those trees

There’s a big cat out on the street tonight … looking for love but he found a fight
Like so many other nights before he got a little more than he bargained for
If you keep doing the same thing every time

You shouldn’t have to scream and shout I thought but now we could figure this out
It’s What you put in to what you get out I Thought by now you shoulda figured it out
I spent a lot of time looking back … put an awful lot of miles on a dead end track
I’m no longer tryin to carry that load; I just want freedom and an open road
Point me towards the line of the setting sun
Just make sure I got enough gasoline to get the job done
I’m not tryin to drive about like I always do just to figure this out
Take the wheel and point it south keep on rollin until I figure it out
Tell me do you think we’ll ever get any closer
Or are we just driving ourselves insane
I spent half my life chasing after thunder
And thinkin I could out drive the rain
I don’t know but I been told when you find the girl with the heart of gold
Then you take both hands and hold on tight and never ever let her out of your sight
You might be the prettiest thing I’ve ever seen
You might be the answer to my wildest dreams
I may not know what it’s all about but I think together we can figure it out
